The Mindich Program in Engaged Scholarship Faculty Curricular Innovation Award is now open for the AY 24-25 cycle. Proposals are due March 22, 2024.

The Mindich Program in Engaged Scholarship Faculty Curricular Innovation Award invites proposals from FAS faculty for funding to develop undergraduate engaged scholarship courses on all topics across the liberal arts and sciences.

To apply, please complete the linked Qualtrics form by March 22, 2024. We encourage interested faculty to meet with Flavia Peréa, Director of the Mindich Program in Engaged Scholarship, in advance of preparing the proposal.

The Mindich Program in Engaged Scholarship (MPES) stimulates faculty innovations in teaching and learning through the development of applied and experiential learning experiences with people or in communities beyond the Harvard context. By transcending the boundaries of the classroom, the MPES aims to link academic study to real-world questions, problems, and opportunities, while challenging students to integrate course content and scholarly perspectives with community and non-academic perspectives, knowledge, and expertise.

Proposals may be for the development of new courses, as well as for the substantive redesign of existing courses. We invite courses that are community collaborative, as well as courses with substantive public-facing projects, such as outreach and public information campaigns.

Curricular Innovation Awards include:

  • Up to $3,600 for RAs to support course development or redesign
  • Up to $1,000 for additional course development expenses
  • Funding to teach the course when implemented, including TF/TA support

We particularly invite proposals for courses related to three focus areas:

  • Abolition, and the Harvard and the Legacy of Slavery Initiative
  • Sustainability, Environmental Justice, and the Harvard Climate Education Initiative
  • Creativity through the Engaged Arts and Humanities

Eligibility:

All ladder faculty, professors of the practice, professors in residence, senior lecturers, and senior preceptors with more than a 0 FTE appointed in the FAS are invited to apply. Lecturers with long term teaching appointments (i.e.: dependent lecturers) in FAS are also eligible for this award.

Harvard faculty not appointed in FAS may collaborate on a proposal that includes at least one FAS faculty member.
